Pau Gasol may be sidelined for more than one game due to tendinitis in both knees – NBA News
As the Los Angeles Lakers continue to struggle on the court and make their new roster work together and adjust to the new system under Mike D’Antoni, they continue to receive bad news after bad news. As if the team not being able
to deliver on the court and Dwight Howard and Pau Gasol having issues adjusting to the new system was not enough, the Lakers are facing some serious injury troubles. First, the Lakers lost their point guard Steve Nash who is yet to return to action for the
team. Then, they lost Nash’s backup Steve Blake to injury as well. And now, the Lakers are reporting that All Star forward Pau Gasol had tendinitis in both of his knees.
Gasol, the All Star who has won two NBA championships with the Lakers, sat on Lakers Tuesday night loss to the Houston Rockets. However, the team is now saying that it may be more than one game that Gasol will miss considering
the status of his knees and will be given the rest for him to completely heal from his injury.
“We got to get him healthy. Whatever it takes — one game, two games, 10 games — I don’t know. It’s day to day but he’s got to be healthy. It wasn’t fair (to him). He’s trying to battle through some stuff and in this league, you
just can’t do that,” said Lakers Head Coach Mike D’Antoni.
Gasol’s sidelining has given new breath to rumours that he might be traded by the team before the trade deadline, seeing as he has so far been unable to adjust to the new team system and is a far shot from being the All Star forward
he was the past few seasons. Although the Lakers have no plans of trading him yet, a source has told ESPNLosAngeles.com that the Lakers are thinking about trading him if he is unable to adjust into the new team and have already communicated that to his representatives.
“However, a source told ESPNLosAngeles.com that Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak has recently spoken to Gasol’s representatives and the gist of the conversation was that if Gasol is unable to adjust to D’Antoni’s system, the
team will have no choice but to search for possible trade scenarios,” the report states.
Gasol still has a few weeks before the Lakers give up on their present roster and look to make changes, but the team needs to start playing well and understanding each other before they are made to break up.
