Pau Gasol not sure whether he will be with the Los Angeles Lakers next season – NBA Update
After Steve Nash agreed to join the Los Angeles Lakers, there are many who would have thought the team to be a formidable force for next season. However based on recent comments from general manager Mike Kupchak, it seems that
roster is not yet complete.
These comments have again given rise to the uncertainty regarding the future of Spanish big man Pau Gasol who has been long hinted on his way out of Hollywood. Even though no news of a deal involving the Spaniards exit from the
team has surfaced, but Gasol himself thinks that there is no guarantee of him being a Lakers player next season.
"We all know by now that there are no guarantees in this business," Gasol said in an email "I want to win another ring and I cannot see any other place better than the Lakers, and LA, my city, to do so."
At the moment Gasol has his mind set on the 2012 London Olympics, where they are one of the favourites to win the gold medal, a feat they had come so close to achieving four years ago. Gasol however cannot help thinking about what
it would mean to play alongside a veteran point guard like Nash.
"Steve is one of the most talented point guards of all time, and a player I personally admire," Gasol said. "I really can't wait to play with him."
One thing that remains inevitable is that with the arrival of Nash, everybody on the Lakers team will be getting their fair share of the ball. Nash has been a high assist guard throughout his career and is known executing the pick
and roll offense to perfection which can be highly beneficial for both Gasol and Andrew Bynum.
The Spaniard believes that by adding the former two times MVP to their ranks, the Lakers can automatically jump back into upper echelon of NBA and likes their chances of winning a championship provided he remains in Hollywood.
"I really like our chances," Gasol said. "I know the team will be as hungry as ever to win a championship."
