Paul Biedermann acquires Men’s 200m freestyle title: Day four – European SC Swimming Championships
World record holder and German freestyle expert, Paul Biedermann met the expectations of his fans by defending his title of Men’s 200m freestyle on final day of the 2011 European Short Course Swimming Championships in Szczecin, Poland on Sunday, December
11.
The 25-year-old Biedermann faced severe competition from Filippo Magnini of Italy and Laszlo Cseh of Hungary in the eight-lap freestyle swim.
Magnini started off with a commendable start that placed him slightly away from his opponents. With his immaculate start, he managed to finish his first round of the swim in a fastest time of 24.07 seconds.
He was trailed by the defending champion, who remained 0.25 seconds behind him and ended his initial round of the swim with an effort of 24.32 seconds. Cseh remained third fastest swimmer of the event as he was 0.55 seconds behind Biedermann and completed
the equivalent distance in a time of 24.87 seconds.
Nevertheless, tables turned in the second round of the event, where Biedermann accelerated his efforts and took charge of the swim by completing his first half of the race in a time of 50.49 seconds.
With his immaculate efforts and irresistible pace, he managed a lead of 0.20 seconds over Magnini, who ended his initial half with an effort of 50.69 seconds.  Cseh remained 0.96 seconds slower from the Italian swimmer and completed his initial 100 metres
of the swim with a timing of 51.65 seconds.
The German veteran continued his dominance in the third round, where he clocked a timing of 1 minute and 16.96 seconds. He was trailed by Magnini and Cseh, who ended their rounds with timings o 1:17.13 and 1:17.85 minutes, respectively.
Finally, Biedermann showered his expertise in the final round, where he reached the finishing end with a fastest timing of 1 minute and 42.92 seconds for gold medal. Magnini and Cseh sustained their spots in final round and hit the wall with timings of 1:43.20
and 1:43.71 minutes for second and third position, respectively.
Furthermore, the accolades were awarded to all podium finishers for their incredible efforts after the conclusion of session.
