Paul Biedermann all set to compete in 400m freestyle title at the 2012 London Olympic Games
Two-time world champion, Paul Biedermann of Germany is all set to compete in his main event, 400m freestyle at the forthcoming 2012 London Olympic Games in July.
The 25-year-old Biedermann, who set the world record of the 200m and 400m event at the 2009 Rome World Championships, faced some strong resistance from his competitors at the 2011 World titles in Shanghai and finished third in both events.
Biedermann lost the title of his 200m event from Ryan Lochte of USA, who captured gold medal of the discipline, Phelps finished second in the discipline while Biedermann secured a bronze finish.
Similarly, South Korea’s Park Tae Hwan dominated the 400m freestyle at 2011 World Championships, China’s Sun Yang finished second in the discipline while Biedermann once again ended third.
Recently, the German swimmer dominated the 200m freestyle at the Olympic selection trials but he failed to materialise his efforts in the 400m event under the mark set by his federation.
Biedermann’s effort was slower from the Olympic qualification standard set by German federation but he was selected on his bronze finish at the 2011 world titles.
While commenting on his performance at the last week’s trials, Biedermann added. “I started too slowly. I must work some more on this point. I am really happy to have the European title but unfortunately once again I didn't get the required Olympic qualifying
time. Now I'm going to have to probably accept the ticket offered by the federation.”
Recently, Biedermann clinched gold medal of the 400m freestyle at the 2012 European Long Course Championships. He stayed slightly ahead of his following swimmer and reached the finishing end for gold medal with the timing of 3 minutes and 47.84 seconds.
