Paul Biedermann conquers Men’s 200m freestyle heats: Day two – European LC Championships
German freestyle expert and world record holder, Paul Biedermann conquered the preliminary rounds of Men’s 200m freestyle on second day of the European Long Course Championships in Debrecen, Hungary on Tuesday, May 22.
The 25-year-old Biedermann, who captured gold medal of the Men’s 400m freestyle on initial day of the championship, went full rampant in the 200m event to qualify in the playoff as top contender for gold medal.
With his astonishing efforts, Biedermann managed to outperform his challengers over the finishing end for first position as he clocked a time of 1 minute and 47.39 seconds.
His fastest qualification effort was trailed by Dominik Kozma of Hungary, who secured second best qualification spot of the event by reporting a time of 1 minute and 47.52 seconds.
Kozma was chased by Nimrod Shapira of Israel, who proved his eligibility for third finest qualification spot of the event by completing his swim in a time 1 minute and 48.93 seconds.
Fourth best qualifying position of the discipline was chased by Tim Wallburger of Germany, who remained just 0.11 seconds apart and concluded his race in a time of 1 minute and 49.04 seconds.
Following that, Caroline Ruhnau of Germany dominated the qualification rounds of Women’s 100m breaststroke. The 27-year-old Ruhnau remained marginally ahead of her strongest competitor and tapped the finishing end for first position.
Her scintillating effort remained two strokes ahead of her following swimmer as she clocked a time of 1 minute and 07.85 seconds.
Ruhnau was chased by her teammate, Sarah Poewe, who stayed 0.20 seconds apart and posted a time of 1 minute and 08.05 seconds to enter the playoff.
Third finest qualification spot of the event was obtained by Sycerika McMahon of Ireland, who stayed 0.32 seconds apart and transpired on the finishing blockade by submitting a time of 1 minute and 08.37 seconds.
McMahon was chased by Jennie Johansson of Sweden, who was only 0.01 second apart and tapped the wall with an effort of 1 minute and 08.38 seconds.
Furthermore, these swimmers will face each other in the playoff to occupy gold medal of the event.
