Paul Biedermann earns Men's 200m freestyle gold: Day two – 2011 German SC Nationals
Paul Biedermann of SV Halle earned gold medal of Men's 200m freestyle on second day of the 2011 German Short Course Nationals on Friday, November 25 in Wuppertal.
The 25-year-old Biedermann posted a wonderful time of 1 minute and 44.06 seconds for gold medal. He was trailed by Robin Backhaus of SG Neukolln Berlin, who remained 0.78 seconds away from him and settled on the podium for silver medal with a timing of 1 minute and 44.84 seconds.
Backhaus remained 0.07 seconds ahead of his team-mate, Tom Siara, who climbed the podium for bronze medal by reporting an effort of 1 minute and 44.91 seconds.
Moments later, the crowd witnessed a fascinating effort of Britta Steffen in the Women's 100m freestyle final. The 28-year-old Steffen ensured her top finish on the podium by producing a time of 52.00 seconds.
She was followed by Daniela Schreiber of SV Halle, who was 1.11 seconds behind and completed her swim in a time of 53.11 seconds for silver medal. The third spot of the race was owned by Silke Lippok of SSG Pforzheim, who ended her swim in a time of 53.77 seconds.
Meanwhile, Christian Diener of PSV Cottbus 90 proved his mettle for the title of Men's 50m back-stroke by posting a time of 24.03 seconds. With his tremendous effort, he remained 0.16 seconds ahead of Stefan Herbst of SSG Leipzig, who grabbed silver medal with an effort of 24.19 seconds.
Herbst was 0.30 seconds ahead of Marco Di Carli of SG Frankfurt, who completed his swim in a time of 24.49 seconds for bronze medal.
After a while, Sarah Poewe of SG Bayer Wup pocketed gold medal of the Women's 100m breast-stroke event with the timing of 1 minute and 06.60 seconds. She was followed by Caroline Ruhnau of SG Essen, who was only 0.20 seconds slower and hit the wall with the timing of 1 minute and 06.80 seconds for silver medal.
The third spot of the race was secured by Laura Simon of SG EWR Rheinhessen, who remained only 0.04 seconds behind and stepped on the podium for bronze medal with an effort of 1 minute and 06.84 seconds.
The arena admired scintillating efforts of all podium finishers while the session completed after the conclusion of all events.
