Paul Biedermann earns Men’s 400m freestyle gold: Day one – 2011 European SC Swimming Championships
Paul Biedermann of Germany met expectations of his fans by earning gold medal of Men’s 400m freestyle on primary day of the 2011 European Short Course Swimming Championships in Szczecin, Poland on Thursday, December 8.
Biedermann outperformed his competitors in the final of 400m event by submitting a gold winning time of 3 minutes and 38.65 seconds. His spectacular effort remained almost six seconds behind the national mark of 3 minutes and 32.77 seconds, owned by Biedermann
from 2009.
The gold medallist was followed by Mads Glaesner of Denmark, who remained just 0.65 seconds slower from him and reached the podium for silver medal by producing an effort of 3 minutes and 39.30 seconds. Glaesner remained in a lead of 1.24 seconds over Pawel
Korzeniowski of Poland, who stepped on the podium for bronze medal by clocking a time of 3 minutes and 40.54 seconds.
Moments later, the crowd witnessed a phenomenal effort of Poland’s Radoslaw Kawecki in the Men’s 200m back-stroke. Kawecki completed his swim in a wonderful time of 1 minute and 49.15 seconds for gold medal.
With his impeccable effort, he remained 1.48 seconds ahead of Spain’s Aschwin Wildeboer Faber, who captured silver medal of the event by producing a nice time of 1 minute and 50.63 seconds. Peter Bernek of Hungary remained 0.58 seconds behind the silver
medallist and ended his swim in a time of 1 minute and 51.21 seconds for bronze medal.
In the meantime, Spain’s Mireia Belmonte Garcia occupied the crown of Women’s 200m Individual Medley (IM) by reporting a time of 2 minutes and 07.06 seconds. She was 1.22 seconds ahead of her closest competitor, Evelyn Verraszto of Hungary, who reached the
finishing end with a timing of 2 minutes and 08.28 seconds for silver medal.
Meanwhile, Hannah Miley of Great Britain proved her eligibility for the third position by clocking a time of 2 minutes and 08.34 seconds.
Biedermann was contended after defending his title and aroused the expectations of his fans by articulating his desire of excelling in his exclusive event at the upcoming 2012 London Olympic Games.
