Paul Biedermann grabs Men’s 400m freestyle title – 2012 FINA Swimming World Cup, Berlin
Paul Biedermann of Germany grabbed gold medal of the Men’s 400m freestyle on first day of the 2012 FINA/ARENA Swimming World Cup in Berlin, Germany on Saturday, October 20.
The German swimmer, who owns the championship and world record of the short course discipline, spoiled the party of his opponents by defending his title with great audacity.
Biedermann showed no mercy to his opponents in the sixteen-lap freestyle discipline and transpired on the wall for gold medal.
He enjoyed an advantage of three body lengths over his closest competitor and surfaced on the wall for the title by submitting a time of 3 minutes and 42.21 seconds.
The gold medallist was chased by David Brandl of Austria, who stayed 3.07 seconds apart and made his way to the finishing end for silver medal by producing a time of 3 minutes and 45.28 seconds.
Brandl was followed by Robin Backhaus, who was 1.60 seconds apart and settled on the wall as third best finisher by clocking an effort of 3 minutes and 46.88 seconds.
The bronze medallist was traced by Richard Nagy, who was 0.35 seconds slower and transpired on the finishing end as fourth best finisher by clocking an effort of 3 minutes and 47.23 seconds.
Fifth position of the race was obtained by Pal Joensen, who was only 0.07 seconds slower and competed his race in a time of 3 minutes and 47.30 seconds.
Joensen was trailed by Damien Joly of France, who suffered a loss of only 0.30 seconds slower and clocked a time of 3 minutes and 47.60 seconds.
Similarly, Joly remained in a lead of two body lengths over Marcin Kaczmarski of Poland, who concluded her race in seventh place by reporting a time of 3 minutes and 49.67 seconds.
Kaczmarski was followed by Yannick Lebherz, who was 0.93 seconds behind and tapped the wall with a timing of 3 minutes and 50.60 seconds for eighth position.
In addition, Biedermann was extremely pleased with his title claiming effort in the 400m event and stressed that he would try his best to accomplish the same at forthcoming swimming events.
