Paul Biedermann pockets Men's 400m freestyle gold: Day four – 2011 German SC Nationals
Paul Biedermann of SV Halle pocketed gold medal of Men's 400m freestyle on the concluding day of the 2011 German Short Course National on Sunday, November 27 in Wuppertal.
Biedermann, who is the world record holder of 400m event, easily overwhelmed the efforts of Yannick Lebherz and Robin Backhaus. The 25-year-old Biedermann overshadowed his competitors from the start of the race, where he ended his first two rounds in a fastest
time of 53.66 seconds.
He was trailed by 22-year-old Lebherz, who remained 0.21 second slower and covered the same distance in a time of 53.87 seconds. The 22-year-old Backhaus was 0.14 seconds behind Lebherz and ended his first two rounds in a tine of 54.01 seconds.
The world record holder showered his expertise in the next two rounds, where he covered his initial 200 metres of the event in a fastest time of 1 minute and 50.36 seconds.
He was 0.14 seconds ahead of Lebherz, who ended his initial half with the timing of 1 minute and 50.50 seconds. Backhaus remained 0.68 seconds slower than his former finisher and ended his first half in a time of 1 minute and 51.18 seconds.
Biedermann continued his dominating swim in the next two rounds, where he posted a wonderful time of 2 minutes and 46.72 seconds. He was followed by Lebherz, who remained nearly one second slower and clocked an effort of 2 minutes and 47.64 seconds.
Backhaus sustained his third fastest spot of the race by covering his initial 300 metres of the swim in a time of 2 minutes and 48.81 seconds. In the last two rounds, Biedermann geared up his efforts and completed his race in a gold winning time of 3 minutes
and 42.57 seconds.
He earned a lead of 2.45 seconds over Lebherz, who stepped on the podium for silver medal by clocking a time of 3 minutes and 45.02 seconds. The third spot of the race was secured by Backhaus, who remained 0.36 seconds slower than his preceding swimmer and
completed his swim in a time of 3 minutes and 45.38 seconds.
The session ended after the dazzling efforts of all the participants while the podium finishers collected their medals at the medal ceremony.
