Paul Biedermann shines in Men’s 400m freestyle title – 2012 FINA Swimming World Cup, Moscow
Paul Biedermann of Germany shined in the playoff of Men’s 400m freestyle on first day of the 2012 FINA/ARENA Swimming World Cup in Moscow, Russia on Wednesday, October 17.
Biedermann, who owns the champion and world record of the discipline, restored order in the fourth stop of the World Cup series, and overpowered his opponents for the title. He gained a marginal lead over his opponents from the start and cruised his way
towards the finishing end for gold medal.
With his astonishing pace, Biedermann remained half a body length ahead of his closest competitor and touched the wall for gold medal with a timing of 3 minutes and 44.00 seconds.
His title claiming effort remained 0.62 seconds ahead of his Australian rival, Robert Hurley, who followed him on the medal rostrum for silver medal by producing an effort of 3 minutes and 44.62 seconds.
Hurley was trailed by Evgeny Kulikov of Russia, who stayed nearly three body lengths apart and surfaced on the wall for bronze medal with a timing of 3 minutes and 47.84 seconds.
The bronze medallist was followed by Junyi Lou of China, who stayed one and a half body length slower from upsetting his former finisher and tapped the wall with a timing of 3 minutes and 49.52 seconds.
Lou was traced by Andrey Ushakov of Russia, who was 2.27 seconds slower from his former finisher and ended his race in fifth place by producing an effort of 3 minutes and 51.79 seconds.
Sixth position of the event was obtained by Anton Goncharov of Ukraine, who was 0.08 seconds slower and clocked an effort of 3 minutes and 51.87 seconds.
Seventh position of the event was secured by Andrey Dmitriev of Russia, who stayed 0.08 seconds apart and posted a time of 3 minutes and 51.95 seconds.
Dmitriev was traced by his compatriot, Alexander Fedorov, who concluded his swim in eighth place by touching the wall with a timing of 3 minutes and 54.74 seconds.
In addition, Biedermann was extremely happy with his title claiming effort and raked medal for his splendid form after the session.
