Paul Capdeville dumps Simone Bolelli in opening round qualifiers – China Open 2011
28-year-old Chilean competitor, Paul Capdeville registered a convincing straight sets victory over the unseeded Italian, Simone Bolelli, in the opening round of the qualifying draw of the China Open on Sunday.
The fifth seeded Capdeville took two hours and four minutes to wind up the contest in his favour, settling the final scores at 7-5, 6-4, to reach the qualifying competition. The fifth seeded Chilean need one more victory to book
a berth in the main rounds of the ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) World Tour 500 event.
Capdeville’s 59 per cent serve earned him 33 out of 41 first serve points and he coughed five double faults in the matchup as well. The Chilean converted four of his 13 break chances in the contest, while Bolelli registered just
two break points out of his 10 chances to finish on the losing side in the end.
The fifth seed was off to a flying start in the opener, as he broke the Italian opponent in his very first serve game of the match to lead 3-0 early in the set. Bolelli backfired in the seventh game of the match to bring Capdeville
back on even terms, as the Chilean coughed five costly double faults. Capdeville dropped just three points on is serve to wrap up the opening set with a decisive serve break in the 12th game to lead 1-0 in the contest.
The following set witnessed an early trade of serve breaks from both contestants, followed by a regular game to take the scores to 4-4. Capdeville proved his superiority once again in the competition and nailed an timely serve
break to conclude a comprehensive victory at 6-4, getting into the final round qualifiers.
Capdeville will face the third seeded Italian, Flavio Cipolla, in the next round to fight for a place in the main draw of the China Open. Cipolla won his opening round clash against the unseeded contestant, Michael Yani of the
United States, after the American pulled out of the second set due to injury.
