Paul Capdeville snails past Alessio Di Mauro in first round – Medellin Challenger 2011
Paul Capdeville, Chilean world No.111, blazed past the veteran Italian, Alessio Di Mauro, in the opening round match of Medellin Challenger 2011 on Monday, 31st of October. Capdeville went down in set two, however, pulled
back up to finish off the Clay court match 7-5, 4-6, 6-4 in almost 3 hours.  
Starting off the first set of the match, Mauro captivated the first game and rolled down the scoreboard, 1-0. Following with a winner, Capdeville fired up his side of the score card and levelled up the scores, 1-1. Equalling matched
the two won a game each and levelled up again at 2-2 before the Italian struck.
Serving out game five, the veteran broke the higher ranked Chilean to lead the set, 4-2. Breaking back right away, Capdeville steered the match serving out game eight to level up the set 4-4. Winning a game each the two again levelled
up, 5-5, before Mauro was broken down by the Chilean world No.111 to take the lead.
With scores at 6-5, Capdeville knocked out game 12 finishing off the set, 7-5, with a staggering forehand winner and taking the lead, 1-0.
Moving on with the second set, Mauro once again served first and scored his first win of the set, 1-0. Following up right away the 28-year-old stayed on the Italian’s tail winning, game 2, levelling up, 1-1. Unable to break each
other in the start the two competitors equalled up again at 2-2, 3-3 and at 4-4 before the veteran Italian levelled up the match scores.
Serving out game 9, 5-4, Mauro blazed away winning the set with a astounding backhand cross court shot and breaking the higher ranked Chilean, 6-4,and levelling up the match scores, 1-1.
Saving the game in set two, Mauro took off to serve the decider. Bagging his first serve of the set, Mauro rolled down the scoreboard, however, the 28-year-0ld equalled up winning away game 2, 1-1. With a surprise, Capdeville broke
the lower ranked Italian and took control of the match, 2-1.
Extending his lead to 3-1, world No.111 thrashed out game 4 and switched the serve. Mauro did win game 5, 3-2, however, was unable to break back to level up the scores. Maintaining his two games lead was the only tactic the Chilean
required.
With the scores hiking up the board, Chilean finally knocked out the Italian serving out game 10 of the decider winning the set 6-4, and the match with a startling comeback.
Through into the second round of the ATP Challenger Tour, the fifth seed will now go against Alejandro Gonzalez, Columbian, as they clash out to battle for the quarter-final chair.
