Paul Casey, Thomas Bjorn and Colin Montgomerie to appear in Pro-Celeb Tournament in Bahrain
Three of the top-ranked European Tour players will be participating in a Pro-Celeb Golf Tournament amid several of the celebrities from showbiz in Bahrain from April 13th to 14th, 2012.
Colin Montgomerie, Thomas Bjorn and Paul Casey have already signed for the appearance in the event, rendering more credibility to the event which is organized by IMG Worldwide and the Bahrain Economic Development Board (EDB).
The three renowned players from the European Tour will play the 18-hole celebrity match alongside tennis superstar Tim Henman, American football icon Joe Montana, and football legends Gianluca Vialli and Ruud Gullit.
Casey is logically delighted to be returning to his favourite hunting ground where he won the Volvo Golf Champions last year.
He said, "I am delighted to be returning to Bahrain for this showcase event at the magnificent Montgomerie Course. The weekend of events and the unique pro-celeb tournament will undoubtedly provide terrific entertainment for visitors from Bahrain and across
the region”.
Shaikh Mohammed bin Essa Al-Khalifa, Chief Executive of the EDB, said:
"We are delighted to be attracting such a high caliber of international golf and sports stars to Bahrain for the tournament”.
Tim Henman, former UK number one, said, "I am honoured to have been asked to play in the golf tournament and delighted to be taking part in the tennis coaching initiative".
European Tour has been touring Bahrain in particular and Middle East in general for several years now, adding more fan-following to the sports.
The tour kicked off with its star-studded fields at the Commercialbank Qatar Masters, followed by one of the most high profile field in Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship and closed the tourney with Dubai Desert Classic in Dubai.
The event is scheduled to take place at the sprawling Royal Golf Club's Montgomerie Course, co-designed by Montgomerie and is considered as one of the finest golf courses in the region.
The 7,243 yard, Par-72 championship course is likely to attract throngs of crowd from all over the world as Bahrain is the considered as the hub of international workforce from all over the world.
The country has been facing turmoil and political instability for the last two years, triggered by the infamous Arab Spring and the Government decided to cancel the Bahrain Grand Prix last year.
Following in the footsteps, European Tour also cancelled the Volvo Golf Champions this year and the event was moved to South Africa.
Montgomerie may not be in his finest forms at the moment, but Dane Bjorn is currently in his blazing form and has won thrice on the tour last year.
Several other famous celebrities will also be part of the field at the scenic course and the tour is expecting heavy turnout of the spectators.
