Paul Casey all set to regain form at his favourite event, the Volvo China Open this week
Englishman Paul Casey is eager to get back in the groove at this week’s Volvo China Open after recovering from a dreadful injury in a snowboarding accident.
He remained off-course for a continuous three months after the accident and missed some high profile events in the calendar year.
He made a comeback at the star-studded WGC Cadillac Championship, finishing for a disappointing joint 56th and also missed the halfway cut at the first major event, the Masters.
Barely taken aback by his back to back sloppy starts of the year, Casey is hoping to reinvent his glistening form of 2006 when he landed the Golden jacket at the scenic course in Shenzen.
He said, "It was a close run thing that year and I eventually beat Oliver Wilson in a play-off in Shenzen. That was my first of two Volvo titles, I now have two after winning the Volvo Golf Champions in Bahrain".
"Winning is a special thing and I have to say that I like to win tournaments that carry a jacket. Obviously everyone wants the Green one but it is a cool prize to win here and I like playing in China. Shenzen was a great course and great people and I just like coming to this country".
Casey has now dropped down to the 43rd on the Official World Golf Rankings (OWGR). He needs to get back in top form as quickly as possible and avoid falling out of the top-50 on the OWGR.
In the wake of such a scenario, the 34-year-old Englishman will have to go through the qualifying rounds to reserve a berth in the proceeding major events of the year.
Casey surged to his highest place on the OWGR when he soared to the third in the year 2009.
He has a regular playing status on both the PGA Tour and the European Tour and is eligible to play in all the calendar events on both sides of the Atlantic.
Casey admits that his lack of experience in snowboarding resulted in the dreaded injury and although he has learned a great deal from the misadventure, sitting on the couch all three months has rejuvenated his passion for the sport.
He also admitted that his putting is not as sharp as it had been previously, but he is currently working on it to get back in shape.
