Paul Casey out, Robert Karlsson in the field of the Volvo World Match Play Championship
Paul Casey will not be competing at the upcoming Volvo World Match Play Championship, due to an injury to his right shoulder.
The 34-year-old Englishman is unhappy about not joining the field for the €3,400,000 prize event, being staged by the European Tour, at the Finca Cortesin, Casares in Andalucía, Spain.
Before The Players Championship in Florida, he incurred an injury while snowboarding. He was unable to compete well at the PGA Tour staged event and thus, quit the event in the first round.
Similarly, he will not be able to entertain his followers in Spain. He is at home, taking rest as his doctors advised him not to play any tournament until the injury is fully recovered.
"My shoulder felt tired and tender when I made my way to the first tee” Casey said. "Unfortunately despite having had intensive treatment since last Thursday, I have been advised not to play in the Volvo World Match Play Championship this week.”
He added: “I am absolutely gutted as it is one of my favourite events and I was really looking forward to a week of match play to kick-start my season. I am very sorry to miss out, especially as Volvo were kind enough to give me an invite and I wish them
a very successful tournament. I won't make any decisions about Wentworth until next weekend".
He turned professional in 2000 and has won 13-professional events so far. The 11 victories were recorded on the European Tour, 1 at the PGA Tour and he also recorded another win at the 2011 Shinhan Donghae Open.
Robert Karlsson is joining the field and will be replacing him. Karlsson is feeling lucky for the auto selection for the event. He will tee-off on Thursday in Spain.
Casey is not happy to be out from the two mega events, as he has withdrawn from the Players championship. Moreover, he will also be missing the Volvo World Match Play Championship as well.
His absence from the mega event is making the tournament less competitive. However, the 11-time European Tour winner, Karlsson, is capable enough to replace him and make the tournament more interesting.
