Paul Casey out of Accenture Match Play Championship, George Coetzee gets in - Golf News
England’s Paul Casey has confirmed not to play in the World Golf Championship (WGC) Accenture Match Play Championship at The Ritz-Carlton, Dove Mountain, Arizona, due to dislocated shoulder injury that he suffered in a snowboarding accident in Colorado last
month.
Casey told that he will not participate in the 64-player event, scheduled from February 20 to 26, 2012.
However, he is hopeful to recover from his injury prior to the WGC Cadillac Championship in Miami, which starts on March 8, 2012.
“I am very frustrated as I was really looking forward to getting off to a fast start in 2012,” Casey told the reporters when he encountered the accident.
“The good news is that the experts I've seen say I don't need surgery and, having already started my rehabilitation exercises, I should be back hitting balls in a few weeks”.
His coach, Peter Kostis, said earlier this week that Casey may recover and make his debut in the 2012 season at Arizona, which will be welcomed by his fans.
However, this did not happen and he has to remain out of the field for further two or three weeks.
Casey looked really disappointed while missing so many high-profile tournaments at the start of the 2012 season.
He said that he has been in a great form for the last two seasons and wanted to make another quick start this year.
However, his injury has sidelined him from playing several events and he misses the golf course badly.
As Casey is now sure to miss the Accenture Match Play, George Coetzee from South Africa will join the tournament as his replacement.
This will be his first ever start in any of the WGC events and said that he feels sorry for Casey for missing the prestigious event.
However, he is also pleased to get a spot in the event he has always dreamt of. He will try his best to prove that he was the right choice after Casey missed the event.
Phil Mickelson, who recently won the Pebble Beach National pro-Am event, is another player who already announced his withdrawal from the tournament earlier, as he wanted to spend some time with his family.
