Paul Casey returns to mainstream golf in this week’s WGC Cadillac Championship
Englishman Paul Casey is now weighing his options for the star-studded WGC Cadillac Championship as he makes a comeback to mainstream golf after a lapse of several months.
Casey dislocated his shoulder during a snow boarding accident and went under a surgery followed by an extended rehab.
He missed the WGC Accenture Match Play Championship at Tucson last month, one of his favourite forms of the game.
Being laid off from competitive golf for a longer period of time, Casey admits that he will have to shed off the rust heading into the high profile event.
However, he also insists that the lay off period may actually be more beneficial to him in several ways.
Casey said, “I’ve had really good rehab, luckily there was no surgery, it was just purely rehab, so it’s feeling strong and now I have to do a lot of work on my golf game to get it back to where it was before the accident”.
For the moment, the 34-year-old Gloucestershire native has bigger plans for the rest of the year as he now hopes to land a major title going into the month of April with the first major event, The Masters at Augusta National.
He added, “I'm here and I want to play well, and I’d love to win this tournament, but my main focus is getting ready to go into Augusta. I’m feeling fresh and excited, and hopefully my golf game will get nice and sharp and I can try and win there”.
Casey revealed that his shoulder injury is 90 percent healed and although he may not be in the prime form at the moment, he hopes to put up a strong fight amid the grizzled field.
He was able to walk through all the 18 holes for the first time on Monday and said that he is feeling fresh and excited.
Casey suffered a painful shoulder dislocation while his snowboarding stunt and while he was being shuttled to the hospital, he was not sure as to what actually has happened with his shoulder.
The X-rays revealed that the shoulder is dislocated and after a while it went back into its socket, considerably reducing the pain.
A winner of no fewer than 13 professional events in his career, Casey has won most of the titles on the European Tour and is now contemplating a major victory in the rest of the year.
He is one of the top-ranking English golfers for the moment and was also part of the Ryder Cup team in 2004, 2006 and 2008.
He has also represented his country in the WGC World Cup alongside playing mate Luke Donald and landed the title in the year 2004.
Representing Great Britain and Ireland in the Seve Trophy, he pulled in the title for no less than four times in his blistering career.
