Paul Casey's plan for 2011: Let's all be more instinctive, shall we?
Paul Casey thinks his 2010 spell could have been much better had he not focused on methodological quality more than his instincts.
Casey, the 2009 Shell Houston Open winner, recently claimed that he used to be a man of killer instincts. The thirty-three year old said that the current season could have been much better if he had learnt to put his instincts
to better use he would have had far more victories, having focused more on a technically perfect game rather than an instinctual one.
But with 2010 reaching an end, the British golfer has not only stepped into the top ten of the world rankings, he has managed to end up number eight on the money list with $ 3,613,194 and slowly recovered from a rather painful
rib injury.
“When I began the year, my swing wasn’t free but all went well, I think I did a good job on the course” said Casey.
However, his frustration mounted when not even a single event sided with him for the win. According to Casey, this was because of the uncompleted work on his swing and his inability to sniff out a close.
While talking to the media, the thirty-three year old golfer said that this year had been a bit disappointing for him as with zero wins on his record, things had turned a bit frustrating.
But considered by many as a consistent golfer, Casey managed to grab his form back in a rather short while and closed the year on a high note.
“This year is ending on a near to fantastic note” He said.
The Englishman has a total of 11 professional victories with one PGA Tour win and 10 European Tour wins till now. Casey managed to finish 17 times in the top ten of the PGA Tour and grabbed second place at the WGC-Accenture Match
Play Championship as well as the BMW Championship.
According to the golfer who turned professional in 2000, this year handed him plentiful opportunities to seal an event but unfortunately he never closed anything.
“If you look at it from that perspective, I don’t feel so happy” said Casey.
Of course he agrees with the fact that he is a much better golfer than he was when he first started playing but he still feels he needs to sharpen up his instincts when it comes to closing out a tournament.
“All it needs is risk taking, I know how to play a good clean piece of golf but one must know when to turn aggressive” said the thirty-three year old golfer.
