Paul Childs, Neal Freeman win 10.2 and 8.4 series title at Weymouth: RS100 National Championships
Paul Childs of Hayling Island Sailing Club and Parkstone Yacht Club’s Neal Freeman grabbed titles of 10.2 and 8.4 series respectively on the final day of RS100 National Championships at Weymouth and Portland. However, Freeman not only took the 8.4 title
but also grabbed a second place in the overall standings after Childs.
The weather conditions at Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy were lighter on the final day, as the very first race commenced under a six-knot and slightly shifty breeze. Rob Jones and Steve Lee got away round the first and second wind mark respectively,
keeping Freeman and Childs on 9th and 15th place respectively, but in the later laps Childs sailed tremendously to come up into the fleet.
Freeman sailed at fourth place, but a superb shift brought him at first place followed by Childs at number two. Despite a low performance, Childs still managed to top the 10.2 standings followed by Huw Powell and Ian Turnbull on second and third place while
Freeman clinched the 8.4 title ahead of Jon Holroyd and Steve Birbeck.
The overall standings of RS100 at the end of the event are given below:
