Paul Collingwood acknowledges difficulty in getting back into England team – Cricket News Update
35-year-old English all-rounder, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747, recently expressed that the off-chance that he may get another shot at playing for England keeps him motivated,
despite the odds being stacked against him.
"I do realise it will take pretty much a miracle to get back into that side,” said the all-rounder, and his statement is not too short of the truth either, as the English side is currently considered very balanced, holding the World’s No.1 Test side title.
However, Collingwood believes that if he continues to do well in the domestic circuit, where he plays for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Durham-c782, he may get an opening with the Poms, courtesy a few injuries. "If you have a good two or three months of playing really well and England have
a couple of injuries, you just never know," he said.
The veteran all-rounder was the skipper of the English national team, before he resigned in 2008, following a dip in form, but he received another chance when he was chosen to lead the Twenty20 side in 2009.
The 2009 edition of the 20-over championship was bagged by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 in the finals, but Collingwood remained the captain for the upcoming 2010 edition as well - leading the Poms to their first major title after defeating arch-rivals
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 in the finals.
Apart from being a stable batsman and a handy bowler, Collingwood is renowned for his prowess in the field, taking exceptional catches and proving his overall worth for the English contingent. However, the English have recently focused on reinvigorating
their sides, bringing in young blood and appointing a different skipper for each format. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/SCJ-Broad-c2465 is the Twenty20 captain.
Acknowledging the fact that it is very improbable that he will get a slot in the current English setup, the former skipper expressed that his immediate goal is to do well for his County side, Durham.
"My sole focus for this next six months - and for the next three years because I've signed a three-year contract - is to do well for Durham and hopefully drive Durham to get some silverware, win things and hopefully I can play well personally and score some
big runs," he said.
