Paul Collingwood bitterly disappointed after T20 captaincy snub
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 all-rounder Paul Collingwood, who led his country to their maiden International Cricket Council (ICC) limited overs trophy, has declared his disappointment after being snubbed of captaincy in the shortest format of the game.
Collingwood led England to the T20 World Championship title in the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 last year, however, his subsequent dip in form has led to his removal from the helm, and he has been replaced by promising all-rounder Stuart Broad.
The http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Durham-c782 player stated that he had no clue as to what was to hit him as barely four days before the announcement of Broad’s appointment, he had a fruitful meeting with the English Cricket Board, and the player was all gung-ho about
starting his rehabilitation after a knee injury that kept him out of the start of the English season.
Collingwood spoke to the media and made them aware of the hurt that he feels after being stripped off captaincy, despite a highly impressive record as leader in the shortest format of the game.
"Four days ago I was upbeat about getting back into training and playing after my knee operation," Collingwood told the Mail on Sunday. "I was full of optimism about trying to regain my form and my place in the one-day side."
He added that time and again he had stated that his sights were set on the successful defence of the title in the next T20 Championship that is to take place in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 in 2012. Collingwood's long term goal, after he gave up test
cricket following a disappointing Ashes series, was to lead the team to another title in the shortest format.
He disclosed when the member of the England Board and the head of the selection panel, Geoff Miller, told him that he was being removed as captain, he was shocked and felt like a juggernaut had come along at full steam and completely
wiped him out, disbelief is what hit him.
However the feisty right hand batsman and medium pace bowler offered his full support to Broad, he thinks that he is the right man to replace him as he has a fantastic cricket brain.
"I want to make it clear I totally support Stuart Broad as my successor. He has the kind of fast-thinking brain that you need in Twenty20 captaincy. But even though I understand all that ... I'm still very disappointed and hurt by
what has happened." Added the Englishman.
Despite his success as captain, Collingwood’s own form suffered a big dip as he hardly made a contribution with bat or the ball and had a mediocre top score of 21 in his last 13 T20 innings, which eventually led to the end of his
captaincy stint.
