Paul Collingwood not pleased after losing Twenty20 Captaincy
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c749’s all-rounder, Paul Collingwood, was unhappy about losing his Twenty20 captaincy to young Stuart Broad. The veteran player created history for the team, winning the Twenty20 World Cup in 2010. However, his form in recent times hasn’t been good, which
forced the selectors to make this decision.
Although Collingwood expressed his disappointment over the board’s decision, he offered full support to his successor.
The 34-year-old stated, “I want to make it clear I totally support Stuart Broad as my successor. He has the kind of fast-thinking brain that you need in Twenty20 captaincy. And I understand the thinking that the team moves forward and people only have a
certain shelf life.”
He further added, “But even though I understand all that, it doesn't make it any easier to take and it doesn't mean I agree with it. I'm still very disappointed and hurt by what has happened. I've been captain of a side who've won the World Cup and set a
world record. Can they really sack me after that?”
The veteran claimed that he was unable to sleep properly once he received the call from the selectors about the decision. He was looking forward to regain his form and earn back his One Day International (ODI) spot.
Collingwood was unable to perform in the Ashes series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 and decided to retire from the longest version of the game. He struggled to perform in the limited over format though and was unable to make an impression in the seven-match ODI series
against the Kangaroos.
However, the star player was selected for the ICC World Cup 2011, considering his experience and ability to play well in Subcontinent. He was expected to help his side finish games in the Mega Event, but was unable to perform both with the bat and the ball.
England had suffered a lot due to injuries to key players like, Eoin http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Morgan-c77707 and Kevin Pietersen, and the lack of runs from Collingwood added insult to injury for the team. The Poms managed to make it to the quarter-final stage of the World Cup, but were
defeated by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758.
Andrew Strauss resigned from ODI captaincy whereas Collingwood was sacked from his role after a dismal show in the Mega Event.
