Paul Collingwood proud of Durham’s recent win over Middlesex – Cricket News Update
Durham skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Durham-c782’s first victory of the current season.
“We can very proud of the lads,” Collingwood said. “There are not many games you win when you have been bowled out for 102 in the first innings ...The lads have stuck together throughout this match. They have fought every ball.”
Durham’s previous three matches were scheduled against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sussex-c852. The weather prevailed in the first two, while Durham ended up losing the third by 2 wickets.
However, the fourth match, against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Middlesex-c817, played at the Riverside Ground at Chester-le-Street from July 27 to 29, saw Durham turning the tables on their opponents following a poor start.
Middlesex won the toss and chose to field, and Collingwood’s men put up a poor show during their first innings, registering a total of 102. Middlesex’s http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ST-Finn-c2566
claimed 2 for 17, displaying impressive economy.
Middlesex’s first innings saw them managing to post a total of 185 and gaining an 83-run lead, with skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Callum-Thorp-c1211 (17-4-50-3),
and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ben-Stokes-c1142 (19-6-44-3), meanwhile, worked hard to restrict the opposition.
By this point, the prospects of victory appeared fairly bleak for Durham. However, they managed to post a competitive second-innings total of 200, and the third day saw them bowling out their opposition at 102, with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Chris-Rushworth-c1250 (13-2-41-4) and Onions
(20-6-38-3) registering prominent performances.
Following the thrilling 15-run victory, Collingwood pointed out that the bowler-friendly surfaces had resulted in exciting matches for spectators this summer.
“We would like to have scored more runs but we have shown the pitches are doing quite a lot,” Collingwood said. “I guess it is the opposite end of the scale if you have a 500 plays 500.”
“People say they are boring games. What we have seen in the last fortnight is very exciting cricket on pitches which have been very bowler-friendly.”
