Paul Collingwood replaces Phil Mustard as Durham’s four-day skipper – Cricket News Update
Durham County Cricket Club’s management, on Tuesday confirmed that former England batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/PD-Collingwood-c2173 has replaced wicketkeeper Phil Mustard as the skipper for the ensuing championship matches of the season with immediate effect,
following team’s uninspiring run in the Lv= County Championship so far this year.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Geoffrey-Cook-c58795, expressed happiness over the appointment and hoped the side to excel under Collingwood’s astute captaincy.
“We are delighted that Paul has agreed to take on the captaincy and lead the side in the four-day competition,” said head coach Geoff Cook on Tuesday.
"Paul has international experience is an excellent asset to the team at a time when we need to be delivering our best results," he added further.
Cook also appreciated the axed skipper, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Will-Smith-c2794 midway through the 2010 season.
“We are grateful for Phil Mustard’s efforts as captain and he remains an integral part of the team as a key contributor behind the stumps and with the bat,” said the Durham head coach.
The Dynamos have had a disastrous start to the ongoing 2012 season, as after having played eight county championship matches so far this year, they are yet to script a victory. Collingwood, who retired from Test cricket in January
last year, will have eight games to lift the side up from the bottom of the table.
The 36-year-old former T20 skipper of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013, who led the side to their lone World T20 title in 2010, expressed delight over the challenge and vowed to take the side back on the winning track soon.
"I am excited to have the opportunity," said the former England all rounder.
"[I hope] to use my experience to help us progress in the County Championship and get us back to winning ways," he added further.
Collingwood’s first assignment as Durham’s four-day skipper will be the Championship match against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Worcestershire-c866, next Tuesday.
The snubbed Durham skipper Phil Mustard also lent his support to Collingwood, via social media site Twitter.
