Paul Daley set to make Strikeforce debut in December
The date has been set for Paul “Semtex” Daley to make his Strikeforce debut. Daley and Scott “Hands of Steel” Smith have made a verbal agreement to face off on December 4th
in St. Louis. The two fighters will join a card being headlined by Dan Henderson vs. Renato “Babalu” Sobral.
Daley was unceremoniously sacked from Ultimate Fighting Championship after he sucker-punched Josh Koscheck after the final bell had rung in their fight.
In the post fight press conference UFC president Dana White had this to say, “He’s done. I don’t give a sh** if he’s the best 170 pounder in the world. He’ll never come back here again.”
White continued, “There's no excuse for that. These guys are professional athletes. You don't ever hit a guy blatantly after the bell like that, whether you're frustrated or not. It was probably one of the dumbest things I've ever seen because he is a talented
guy, and he is one of the best 170-pounders in the world."
According to White, Daley claimed that he did not hear the bell.
The fight will be in the welterweight division, even though Daley did miss making weight in that division for his recent fight with Jorge Masvidal at their recent Shark fights bout. Smith
will be dropping down from middleweight to take the fight.
Daley brings an MMA record of 25-9-2 into the fight along with a reputation of being a fearsome striker. Smith, the former World Extreme Cagefighting light heavyweight champion will enter
the fight with a 17-7-0 record. Smith is the only fighter to ever defeat former Strikeforce middleweight champion Cung Le.
This will be Daley’s first of six fights on the contract he signed with Strikeforce earlier in September. The December bout will be Smith’s sixth consecutive fight under the Strikeforce
banner.
