Paul Davison aims for top 64 spot after starting the 2011-12 season campaign - World Snooker news
Englishman, Paul Davison, is setting his eyes on a place among the world’s top 64 snooker players, as he starts his campaign for the 2011-12 Snooker season after the Q School 2011 event.
The Yorkshire potter qualified for the main tour on the basis of the Players Tour Championship (PTC) Order of Merit, as he is one of the top eight players of the event.
The Snowy, Davison, is determined to make a better impact at the UK Championship that will be held in his home town, Yorkshire, at the Barbican Centre. He also expects a good outcome when he plays in the twelve PTC events this year.
He told about his PTC plans and said, “I plan to play all six in this country and those in Europe as well. At the beginning of last season, I played in the PTCs but didn’t do too well in other ranking events. The ranking events are obviously where you want to do well but if you can also do well in the PTCs, and get a few points, it can only help your ranking.”
The 39-year-old Davison grabbed the tour place last year and secured two major victories in the International Open Series and the World Open, where he defeated the Whirlwind, Jimmy White, by 3-1 in the second round.
The English cueman, Davison, is eager to book his spot in the top 64 snooker players and is hoping for a positive result out of his season campaign.
The world number 72 told the press, “I’ve got to get into the top 64. If you can do that, you are guaranteed a tour place and, on paper at least, it makes qualifying slightly easier. To achieve this, I reckon I have got to win the first round match in the seven or eight major ranking tournaments. If you do that, you can be reasonable consistent in the PTCs and you wouldn’t be too far away.”
If the Pickering potter, Davison, makes it to the World’s top 64 potters, he will automatically surge into the advance stages of each tournament’s qualifiers and he will not have to play in the initial stages. Also, being in the top 64 means, he will be among legends like Jimmy White, Alan McManus and Steve Davis.
