Paul Drinkhall and Jack Hunter-Spivey celebrate the upcoming UK School Games: Table Tennis News
The annual Sainsbury's United Kingdom School Games will be held in September this year. The event will be held at Sheffield. The top table tennis player of the country Paul Drinkhall along
with Jack Hunter-Spivey joined the local school children in order to celebrate the upcoming event.
Paul Drinkhall has also participated at the UK School Games during his school days. He said, "The Sainsbury's UK School Games is a great experience for talented young athletes as it provides
a unique multi-sport event on a national scale”.
Paul has won two gold medals and two silver medals at the recent English National Championships held earlier this year in March. He is also one of the top contenders for the Olympics
going to be held at his home country and also the runners-up of the British Broadcasting Cooperation (BBC) Athlete of the Year twice.
Hunter-Spivey, 15-year-old player recently made to the 2011 British Table Tennis Disabled World Class Performance Squad. He said, "I think the Sainsbury's UK School Games is a great opportunity
to showcase the talents of young up-and-coming British athletes."
Hunter-Spivey is looking forward for the 2012 Paralympics for which he working really hard and regularly practices at the Sheffield sports institute.
The event will be held at the best venues of the city; the English Institute of Sport, where the International Table Tennis federation (ITTF) English Open Championship was held earlier
this year. The other venues of the event are the Ponds Forge International Sports Centre, the Don Valley Stadium, The Ice Sheffield and the Motorpoint Arena.
The Sports Director of the Youth Sports Trust, Ali Oliver, said, "This year's 2011 Games in Sheffield promise to be the biggest and most exciting yet and what better city to host four
days of inspirational sport."
In 2006, the UK School Games were held for the first time and was inaugurated by the then sports minister Richard Caborn. He is now the president of the event. The event will be replaced
by new School Games in 2012. The inauguration will take place two months before the London Olympics at the Olympic Park.
The new body will give young players to prove their capabilities at local level before joining the national teams. There will be 16,000 young table tennis players from different schools
of the country this year.
The event will hold games like cycling, athletics, badminton, fencing, gymnastics, hockey, judo, swimming, table tennis and volleyball in the normal category. Where as in the disability
events swimming, athletics and table tennis will be contested.
Table Tennis is one of the most favourite sports at the event, as it gaining popularity in the young children.
