Paul Fleming successfully defends his streak and nails Hwi-Jong Kim in six-round bout – Boxing news
Paul Fleming, the Australian number two super featherweight, successfully defended his win streak and collected an impressive unanimous decision win over South Korean Hwi-Jong Kim, in a six-round bout held on April 6, 2012.
The ring for the bout was stretched at Orion Function Centre situated in Campsie, New South Wales, Australia and the event was promoted by Billy Hussein of Team Hussein. The event was headlined by the non-title eight-round between Corey McConnell and Jayson
Mac Gura.
Paul-Kim bout was scheduled to co-headline the Friday night show and put forth the Aussie boxing fans an impressive show of resilience, agility, footwork, and raw power. Fleming, infamous as the ‘2 Gunz’, has been in a total 13 bouts and came out victorious
in all constructing an intimidating win streak.
Though the 24-year-old lad resides at 102nd position yet he has nailed almost all the top super featherweights in his country. Kim, on the other hand, did not pose any threat to the surging Aussie pugilist.
The 31-year-old has been in a total seven bouts and was able to come out victorious in just four. In addition, he has collected just one win by knockout as compared to Paul’s 10 victories.
Apart from the above stats, Kim followed the orthodox stance as compared to Paul’s southpaw one which added another difficulty in the Korean’s game plan. An intimidating win ratio, a decent knockout rate, the left hand stance, and a continuous win streak
was enough to boost up Paul’s motivation and he did exhibited his energy and enthusiasm in the ring during the bout.
The bout started and Fleming started to direct the pace of the bout. In the first round, Paul had a clear upper hand and he successfully replicated his performance in the rest of the five rounds.
Kim, who was coming from two consecutive losses against men like Paul, strived hard to defend his face and body but all his effort went in vain since Paul outwitted the Korean proud by throwing well targeted jabs that connected Kim’s face and body substantially
and tore him apart bit by bit.
It was evident from the strategy followed by Paul that he is not trying to collect a knockout win rather wants a points based victory. At the end of the six-round extravaganza, all the three designated judges awarded 60-54 in favour of Paul.
With this astounding win Paul now has 14 wins in total 14 bouts whereas the South Korean Kim, who will now take on Aussie Matt Garlett on April 28, 2012, has collected his fourth career win.
