Paul George fashions an impressive Indiana Pacers win over New Jersey Nets - NBA Recap
It’s official now. Paul George loves playing against the New Jersey Nets.
On January 2nd, he had pounded 21 points to guide his team Indiana Pacers to a 108-94 win against the Nets and just few hours ago, he put up his season best performance to shut down the Nets and lead Pacers to a 106-99
win.
Paul was superb and marshalled the Pacers with 24 points on 8-for-11 from the floor including 4-for-6 from long range and a perfect 4 for 4 from the charity stripe.
"I just want to be effective on both sides of the ball and help this team win," George said. "We picked up the defensive effort and just turned it up."
Danny Granger supported George well with his 21 points on an accurate 9 for 9 from the charity stripe, 7 boards and 5 assists. Roy Hibbert had a double-double with 18 points and 14 boards while the reserve Tyler Hansbrough accumulated
10 points.
Pacers coach Frank Vogel was impressed with his team’s show. Praising the team and especially the star performer George, Frank exclaimed.
"We continue to grow our identity.” He added "Paul George really carried us through some offensive stretches. He's a heck of a weapon at both ends."
Deron Williams paced the Nets with a game high 34 points on 10-for-12 from the free throw line and 7 assists. Guard Anthony Morrow pounded 28 points on an aggressive 5 for 8 from outside the arc while Kris Humphries achieved yet
another double-double by scoring 13 and pulling down 10 boards.
Both teams were accurate with their shooting, however in terms of turnovers they were poor and committed 19 each.
The Nets were within a striking distance, behind by only 2 points, 53-55, by the end of the first half, and put up a good fight midway through the third frame as well as the scores were tied at 66 all with 7 minutes remaining in
the frame.
However, what followed next was a 12-0 run by Pacers that put them in a dominant position and helped them in finishing the frame with a 12 point lead 84-72.
The lead mounted to 17 points 91-74 within the first two minutes of the deciding frame and it looked like Pacers will cruise to the win, but Nets did not go down without a fight.
They rattled an outstanding 23-9 run in the ensuing passage to get as close as 97-100. In the final moments of the game, the Nets just needed a final push, but it was not to be as Pacers used a flurry of free throws down the stretch
to win the game.
