Paul Goydos to skip Transitions Championship, will be out for months
Paul Goydos went through a surgery on March 12, and now he will be missing the field of the Transitions Championship, scheduled to start from March 15 to 18, at the Copperhead Golf Course, Innisbrook Resort and Spa, Palm Harbor in Florida.
The 47-year-old American professional golf player shared the news of his surgery with his fans on Twitter and also spoke about his surgery.
He visited his doctor on Tuesday morning for the surgery on his left wrist. The reason of the surgery is a bone spur. It has been over 25 years now since he encountered with the problem.
"Surgery tomorrow. Having a large bone spur removed from left wrist," Goydos said on Monday.
“At my age and considering what we do for a living, he’s a little concerned about some cartilage damage,” Goydos said.
He planned for the surgery, as the pain became worse and unbearable for him. He also faced difficulties while playing at the season opening, Sony Open in Hawaii.
Similarly, he played six tournaments in total and missed the cut in three. He was unable to perform well in the rest as well.
Goydos contacted his doctor who conducted his X-ray. He was worried about his hand and said, “The bone spur doesn’t hurt, but it’s rubbing up against the tendon”.
After the surgery, the recovery is expected to be seen in three months. He will not be showing his appearance on the golf courses till June 2012, according to the details.
Missing the Transitions Championship is the worst experience for him, as after 2007, he did not record any victory on the PGA and was hoping to grab a title in Florida.
However, he has to wait for about three months to show some action at different tournaments. “There’s no reason for me to play unless I’m fit enough to play,” he added.
Goydos’ absence is confirmed, as he will leave his fans in sorrow. All the followers of the American star will miss him and his game for three months.
The field of the Transitions Championship is competitive. Luke Donald and the Charl Schwartzel are the hottest contenders of the title. They will be teeing off on Thursday and a tough competitive battle is expected.
