Paul Hanagan accepts two awards of appreciation at the Stobart Lesters on 5th April, 2012
It was a lucky night for Paul Hanagan as he accepted two awards for his achievements at the Stobart Lesters ceremony on 5th April, 2012.
Paul Struthers, who is the chief executive of the Professional Jockeys Association, stated to the press that :
"For jockeys there is no greater recognition than that of one's peers in the weighing room. Every Lester that has been won this year is hugely merited.
"Special mention goes to our Flat racing champion Paul Hanagan, who has won two more Lesters. Paul enjoyed another remarkable year in 2011, winning a tremendously exciting battle for the championship for the second year."
The jockey led Barefoot Lady to victory in the Lanwades Stud Nell Gwyn Stakes (Group 3) (Fillies) at Newmarket, on 13th April, 2011, narrowly winning the race by a margin of a neck to Sing Softly.
This race was exceptional as it earned Hanagan the award for ride of the year in 2011.
On Thursday, he accepted the award for the Flat Jockey of the Year along with the title of the Racing Post Flat Ride of the Year.
These awards were presented to him at the annual ceremony in Birmingham, which celebrates the accomplishments of the jockeys from home, along with international jockeys as well.
Joseph O'Brien was declared the SIS International Jockey Ride of the Year for his race that took place on 22nd October, 2011.
Under his guidance, Camelot triumphed in the Racing Post Trophy (Group 1) (Entire Colts & Fillies) at Doncaster. He took the track by storm as he defeated Zip Top by 2 ¼ lengths and emerged victorious.
Cathy Gannon also collected the Prolinx Lady Jockey of the Year award. Her talent is unmatched as she received this award for the second time in her career.
This prestigious event distributed many awards to the ones who have shown tremendous skill and talent. Tony McCoy took home the Lester for the Stobart Jump Jockey of the Year, the award for the Conditional Jockey of the Year was given to Sam Twiston-Davies
whereas Anna O’Brien was given the award for the Jump Jockey Special Recognition.
