Paul Hembery: Pirelli needs to progress on modern F1 cars rather than an outdated TF109 – Formula 1
Pirelli motorsport director Paul Hembery has stated that the tyre manufacturer company needs to get their hands on the modern F1 cars so that the tyre development process heads into the right direction.
Hembery stated that although the 2011 Formula 1 season has unfolded just as the way Pirelli would have loved, still the development process for the next few seasons is a big challenge.
Hembery further added that Pirelli’s current TF109 car is outdated and its lifetime will conclude at the end of the 2011 season after which Pirelli will have to get their hands on one of the new F1 cars of any team to develop tyres according to the current
rules and regulations.
He further stated that Pirelli will not favour any one of the Formula 1 teams by giving them information and the data will be made available for all the teams to analyse.
Hembery commented, “At the end of the day we are a partner of the teams and the teams also need to give their point of view. We can have all the ideas in the world but at the end of the day if they don't want to do it, they don't want to do it. It is easy
for the teams to say no, no, no.”
Talking about the current condition of the Pirelli car, Hembery stated, “The car doesn't have the right sized fuel tank, and it doesn't have the DRS. The 2013 regulations are probably going to be less downforce and higher top speed, so we need to sit down
and find a solution.”
Pirelli have been developing from the data acquired from the teams after the practice sessions but Hembery feels that as the regulations are going to change drastically from the 2013 season, Pirelli needs to have some experimental runs on one of the modern
cars.
The Pirelli tyres have been admired by every Formula 1 team and driver in the 2011 Formula 1 season and a lot more is expected from them in the upcoming seasons.
