Paul Hembery: Pirelli to try out new soft compound for German Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Pirelli Motorsports Director Paul Hembery has said that they will try out a new modified soft compound to get some feedback from the teams at the upcoming German Grand Prix of the 2011 Formula 1 season.
Hembery added that although there is no big change in the composition of the soft tyres, still they have been modified to come in line with the Pirelli hard and medium compound to reduce degradation rate.
Pirelli’s degradation has been the spectacle of the 2011 season as a lot of overtaking manoeuvres have been witnessed in the first nine Grands Prix of the season than the previous two seasons combined.
Hembery commented that slight modifications will be done to the soft tyres before the German race.
“It's not a big change from the current specification, but it is designed to fit in line with our latest versions of the P Zero Silver hard tyre and P Zero White medium, both of which are a little harder than their original specification in order to reduce
degradation,” commented Hembery.
He further added that there is no decision on whether the new compound will be given to the teams or not but the company is expecting to get some important feedback from the teams from the practice sessions.
He stated, “There's no decision yet on when we might use the new tyre yet, but it will be very interesting to hear all the feedback from the teams.”
Pirelli was correct in suggesting the tyre compound for particular races that every race has seen a record number of overtaking moves because the tyres degrade quickly and drivers get a chance to overtake.
The tyre compounds for the German Grand prix are not yet confirmed but it is expected that the Pirelli hard and soft tyres will be used.
The German Grand Prix will be contested on July 24, 2011 and it will be interesting to see that how the Pirelli tyres perform on the Nurburgring circuit.
