Paul Hembery believes Spa will suit Pirelli tyres – Formula 1 news
Pirelli's motorsport director, Paul Hembery has said that Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps of the Belgian Grand Prix will suit this year’s Pirelli compound tyres the most.
Hembery said that they have received a lot of criticism over their tyres in the current season. Moreover, he said that although they faced contradictions in the Belgian GP during the preceding season as Red Bull Racing struggled with the soft compound. Nonetheless,
he said that they have planned to come up with medium and hard compounds this year which he believes will prove out to be more suitable as compared to the previous one.
Furthermore, he said that Spa is his favourite circuit while he said that he expects a great race ahead as all the circumstances are expected to be quite favourable. In addition, he said that it is extremely high speed circuit where the tyres will prove
out to be a big deciding factor. He also said that they are taking the best steps to provide the most constructive compounds to the teams in the approaching races.
"The Spa circuit is a personal favourite of mine," Hembery said. "I recently visited the 24-hour race there: the configuration of the track and the variety of the weather always seems to produce some great racing. From a tyre perspective, it's certainly
one of the most demanding circuits that we face all year, because of the high speeds and extreme forces involved, which are often acting on the tyres in more than one dimension. The nomination of the hard and the medium tyres will allow drivers to push hard
from start to finish, which is what Spa was designed for."
He added that it has been amazing to see how close the championship battle is going where nothing can be predicted as almost all the competent contenders have a fair chance to claim the title.
Additionally, he said that they have been encountered with so much criticism in the first half of the season. Nonetheless, he said that they are hoping to show up with the best tyre compound in the remaining nine races after the August break.
