Paul Hembery of Pirelli says it would be attractive to continue with Formula 1 – Formula 1 news
Paul Hembery of Pirelli says that they want a confirmation before it gets too late as their contract with Formula 1 expires by June 2013.
He said that they need an indication by the end of 2012 if they get the option to re-sign their contract with Formula 1 and continue providing the tyres.
In an exclusive interview with ESPNF1 he said, “I think we need an indication before the end of this year. If the sport would like us to continue and if the overall conditions remain competitive and the sport has the vision that we think it has going forwards
then it remains an attractive proposition for Pirelli.”
He added that they get benefits in global sports and it would be attractive for them if they get their contract renewed. He added that Formula 1 is unique as it moves between different countries. He further said that this creates more interest for Pirelli
because they get a chance to grow in different countries such as Asia, Russia and USA.
He said, “F1 is a unique proposition from that point of view and that appeals to us as we're growing in regions like Asia and in countries like Russia and the USA.”
Furthermore, he said that if the sport wants them to continue and is happy with what they have given to the sport then they will get the option to consider a contract renewal. He added that if the contract is in accordance with the investments then it will
be their pleasure to continue with Formula 1.
Pirelli is providing the tyres to Formula 1 since 2011 when they signed the contract. They have introduced six different types of compounds and have introduced several improvements as well. The tyres are specified to be used specifically in wet or dry conditions.
During the German Grand Prix, Pirelli tested their new hard compound tyres. The world of Formula 1 is on a one-month break and when it returns, it will use the hard and medium compound tyres at both the Belgian and Italian Grands Prix.
