Paul Hembery says
Pirelli ready to beat the heat
The latest tests that were carried out on Pirelli, in Bahrain, for five days make the Italian tyre manufacturers optimistic about its performance. While talking to the media earlier today, the motorsport director of Pirelli, Paul
Hembery said that he is confident that the company will deliver brilliantly in 2011.
The test drivers of the Italian rubber company, Pedro de la Rosa and Romain Grosjean tried several compounds during the test, and gave a positive feedback. The tests were performed to compare the result of different compounds under
the heat of the desert in Sakhir. For these tests, Pirelli used the 2009 Toyota throughout and believes that they have collected all the information they required.
While talking to the media earlier today, Hembery stated, "We ran two drivers in order to compare two different sets of feedback, and the fact that they were both saying the same positive things at the end of the test only underlines
the progress that we have made. There's still some work to do, but we can head into 2011 with confidence."
However, unpredicted sandstorm delayed the tests initially, and created a lot of challenge for everyone preset at the desert. Although, it took more time than expected, still the company reported that its proceedings did not halt,
and after the hectic routine over the past five days’ they have collected even more data than they had expected to.
Hembery explained saying that regardless of what part of the world you are in, for a test or for a race weekend, uncertain weather can arrive. He believes that this was a test for the entire Pirelli team and for the tyre as well,
which went by nicely. He commented that Formula One is all about ‘expecting the unexpected’. He also explained that this storm helped them analyse how well prepared they were for an uncertain condition and he is happy that everyone was able to react quickly
and wisely.
He concluded saying, "With the extra time we had, we were probably able to put in a little bit more work than we had originally planned, so everything worked out very well in the end. We ran through our entire dry tyre range, and
to have reached the point where we are at now, just five months after the F1 tyres ran for the very first time at Mugello in August, is an incredible testimony to the commitment and capability shown by every member of our team."
