Paul Hembery says Pirelli will produce close finishes at the Suzuka circuit – Formula 1 news
Pirelli motorsport director Paul Hembery has said that he is sure the 2011 Japanese Grand Prix will be a memorable race event of the Formula 1 season so far.
Hembery added that the sets of soft and medium tyres will produce close finishes by the drivers in the Japanese race at the Suzuka circuit.
The upcoming race weekend will take place on October 09, 2011 in Japan.
Hembery discussed the Suzuka racetrack and commented, “There’s a lot of energy and lateral load going through the rubber, so once more it is going to be important for all the drivers to manage their tyres effectively, because of the speeds involved and a
high-downforce set-up that pushes the tyres onto the road surface.”
Apart from that, he talked about the devastating year for Japan and stated that they are pleased at the moment, as all of the Formula 1 drivers are going to race there to show their support for the country.
He went on to mention, “After what has been a devastating year for Japan, we are very pleased to be showing our support for the country and coming to the Japanese Grand Prix, on a circuit that all the drivers love. We are likely to see our very first P Zero-equipped
world champion crowned at Suzuka this weekend.”
Hembery further mentioned that the combination of medium and soft tyres by Pirelli has produced several close finishes from the drivers in the past, because there is not a lot of difference in tyre wear between soft and medium compounds.
With regards to the 2011 championship battle, Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel is leading the title fight at the moment. The German is sitting at the top place with 309 points in the 2011 drivers’ championship after taking part in the 14 rounds so far. He needs
only one more point in order to secure yet another championship.
Most of the teams, especially Red Bull, McLaren and Ferrari have enjoyed their races on these two compounds so far.
Let’s see how the current top three teams perform at the Suzuka circuit with soft and medium tyres this weekend.
