Paul James moves to Bath – Rugby News Update
Paul James, the 29-year-old Welsh prop has made the switch from Ospreys to Bath, changing from the RaboDirect PRO12 league to the Aviva Premiership.
The Club is excited to have signed the prop and he will form part of a new look Bath side ahead of the coming season, with further changes also being made in the coaching staff. Speaking on his arrival, CEO Nick Blofeld welcomed him, and he feels that James
can make the difference for the team.
He said, "Paul is a very experienced prop with a lot to offer us, both in the scrum and around the field. He has a great attitude and is a tough customer who will add considerably to our team. We are very much looking forward to him joining us."
The former Ospreys man played for the Welsh regional club 177 times, and his work ethic at the club earned him his first international call up in 2003. He made his debut again Romania at Wrexham, on August 27, 2003, but he had to wait another 6 years to
receive his next international call. He toured with the Wales team to North America but failed to make a single appearance; however, he did play against New Zealand surprisingly in 2009, at the Millennium Stadium in a shock call-up.
However, he is happy to make the switch to the Premiership, saying that it will be develop him as a player and it will be a new, welcome challenge.
James said, "Bath is a very ambitious club and I'm excited by the prospect of being a part of that. The Aviva Premiership is also one of the toughest leagues and I can't wait to get started."
There are also changes being made in the coaching staff, with Gary Gold taking up the position of director of rugby at Bath, with Toby Booth, Neal Hatley and Mike Ford also joining the club in different capacities. Sir Ian McGeechan and Martin Haag have
vacated their positions as coaches.
Paul James who has been capped by Wales 34 times is a good addition to the Bath squad and he can take them to the next level.
