Paul Jefferson Vivas topples Jobett Hereli Co in top-16 round of MVP Sports Foundation Bingo Bonanza
Philippines’ Paul Jefferson Vivas penetrated into the Men’s Singles top-8 stage after crushing Jobett Hereli Co in their round-of-16 match at the 2011 MVP Sports Foundation Bingo Bonanza event, in Davao, Philippines, on Sunday, July 31.
Paul Jefferson proved his worth by displaying a wonderful show of top-class badminton against Jobett and won the match in straight games by taking just 27 minutes of court time. Jobett, who was also playing good badminton failed to cope up with the perfection
and speed of his opponent.
In the first set of this pre-quarter-final battle, Paul Jefferson started the game in a relaxed but controlled manner. He was playing a defensive game against the spirited Jobett, who was playing an attacking game. The score was tied until the end of the
first part of the set, where Paul Jefferson was slightly ahead of his opponent by reaching 11-10.
After the interval, Jobett played with precision and levelled the score by reaching at 15-15. The game then entered into a breath-taking phase, as both shuttlers progressed towards the end of the opening game without creating any gap. The score was 21-21,
where Paul Jefferson played terrific badminton by anticipating the points of his challenger and finished-off the set with a tight score of 23-21, in 15 minutes.
The following set was also thrilling in the first-half, where both shuttlers remained equal until the score reached at 5-5. At this stage of the game, Paul Jefferson injected more power and speed into his strokes and started to control the pace. He was not
giving much time to his rival to return the bird as he was playing an aggressive game. Until the interval, he was leading with a comfortable difference of 11-7.
After the interval, Paul Jefferson extended the lead by playing with perfection. His finishing of the points was just incredible, as he missed no chance of securing a lead. He won the second game in just 12 minutes by the margin of 21-15. This 27-minute
Men’s Singles battle finished-off with the margin of 23-21 and 21-15.
