Paul Lawrie, K.J Choi, Paul Casey start the day with bogeys while Tom Watson makes an impression
The Open Championship has stepped into the third round. The tournament carrying a purse of $7.3-million is taking place at the par-70 Royal St George’s Golf Club in Kent, England. Here is a quick look at the live leaderboard.
Pawl Lawrie stepped into the third round at the 59th spot, at par. He bogeyed four holes and double-bogeyed one to ruin his chances on a respectable finish. The player aced the par-5, seventh and sealed the day with a score of five-over par. The
blow was huge and it left a negative impact on Lawrie’s performance. Lawrie has completed ten holes and he has eight more holes left to play.
Lawrie wasn’t the only one with the poor start however, Paul Casey, K.J Choi and Ryan Moore had a terrible third round start. Casey, who is a local seed, wandered on the course as if it was his first visit to the venue. Lurking around with confusion, Casey
dropped three consecutive shots starting from the par-4, fourth hole. With a gap of two greens, the player bogeyed two more holes and dragged his score to four-over par.
A similar scorecard was produced by Choi. The South Korean kicked the day off with a birdie, but could not keep the performance consistent and double-bogeyed the second immediate hole. He bogeyed four more holes against a single birdie and sealed the front
nine with a score of four-over par.
Justin Rose is also included in the list of golfers, who made the cut but could not take advantage of moving on to the next round. The Englishman chose to tee-off from the front like most of the field and bogeyed four straight holes to ruin his scorecard.
Rose dropped from the 45th spot to the 60th within the first few hours of the third round.
Meanwhile, Tom Watson is going strong right from the start. The 61-year-old golfer has completed the first seven holes with six pars and one birdie. Watson is the oldest player in the field and if he manages to win the tournament, then he will set a new
record.
