Paul Lawrie: All in for the Scottish Open
The Scottish professional golfer, Paul Lawrie has made it clear that for him nothing is more important than the Scottish Open. He said that he prefers to win the Scottish Open over another Claret Jug.
Lawrie’s choice came as a surprise to many, the people who value majors over any other tournament. He has already won the Open Championship, once in 1999, now he has new goals to achieve.
Lawrie seems very confident about his decision to rank the Scottish Open over another Claret Jug in his ‘to do list’. In an interview, Lawrie said that he is only allowed to play one tournament and he would like to participate in the Scottish Open.
The 43-year-old said that he would like to pick the trophy at the Scottish Open. This would be the ultimate thing for him.
Although tremendous things are missing from his CV, for now, he only wants to concentrate on the Castle Stuart Golf Links, the venue for the Scottish Open.
The Scottish golfer is busy getting ready for the tournament and, at the moment, has his undivided concentration on winning the Open.
To show his determination, Lawrie pulled out of the French Open at Le Golf National. So that he is well-rested and in perfect shape for his national Open.
Lawrie will be the home favourite for the tournament. This might pressurise the world number 30. On the contrary, he can even use the home crowd to his advantage. It all depends on him.
Lately, Irish players, such as Rory McIlroy, Graeme McDowell and Darren Clarke were not able to put up a good fight during their national Open. Being the home favourites made it hard for them to perform.
On being the home favourite, Lawrie had to say, “There’s a reason why home-grown players don’t win their national Open very often because there’s much more to do. It’s tiring but it has to be done. These sponsors put a lot of money in and deserve some of
your time”.
Lawrie finished tied at 33 in the last tournament, the Irish Open. He needs to display a much better performance if he wants to win this home tournament. As he himself said that home-grown players have “much more to do”.
