Paul Lawrie: bad putting day at Lytham
The 141st British Championship Open finally comes to an end. The venue for the four-day event was the Royal Lytham & St Annes Golf Course. This auspicious event started from the 19th of July and ended on the 22nd of July.
Biggest names in the world of golf went head to head to fight for the Claret Jug.
In the end there could only be one champion and this year, it was Ernie Els. Many players were happy with their performance and managed to put on a good show for the spectators.
Others had less luck and were not able to live up to their names. This list also includes Scottish professional golfer, Paul Lawrie.
Paul Lawrie had a great start to the tournament. On the first day, he registered six birdies and a single bogey on the eight hole. These made his score five-under par after the first day.
This sort of start could have easily won him the Championship. He just needed to be a bit consistent.
The second day was not so special for Lawrie. He just went one-over par on the day. The third round was the worst one for him. He carded four bogeys and one double bogey on the eighteenth, he completed the par four hole in seven shots.
His score after the third day climbed up to two-over par. On the last day, he had a chance for a comeback, unfortunately he failed.
He again carded three bogeys and a single birdie which made his overall score four-over par. He ended the tournament tied on the thirty fourth position, with four other players.
Lawrie was very disappointed after such a great start. He could have done much better. For his bad days at Lytham, Lawrie blamed his putting.
He said, “I played nicely and just putted like an idiot again. Thursday I putted beautifully, so it's just a bit weird. I just holed nothing out there, it is so disappointing. I think frustrated would be an understatement”.
“I think I've hit the ball this week, not as good as I can, but extremely well. I must have missed with seven or eight efforts from inside 10 feet,” he added.
