Paul Lawrie bags the trophy at the Johnnie Walker Championship
The recent Johnnie Walker Championship was a great treat for all the Paul Lawrie fans. The Scottish golfer finished in style as the final round of the championship drew to its conclusion.
Lawrie won by a broad margin of four strokes. This win is another indication of the improvement in his career. Many experts have termed it as a ‘renaissance’ of sorts where Lawrie gained his lost form in a spectacular fashion.
This win is also important for a whole different reason for the Scottish player. With the prestigious Ryder Cup on the horizon, things are going at a fast pace in the golf world.
The next month, when the European team will travel to the Medinah Country Club for the Ryder Cup, Lawrie will be an integral part of the team.
In the recent events, Lawrie has played well enough for many experts to comment that he is on his way to becoming the top rated player in Europe. However, this appears a long way off and the stage in this journey appears to be in his grasp.
Lawrie is pretty confident of his abilities and, in a recent chat about the upcoming Ryder Cup, said that he is at the top of his game right now. He added that he has a history of excellent play in the recent events and Ryder Cup will be no exception.
In his words, “I'm going into this one as confident as I was last time, I can't wait. It is difficult to rank wins but this is obviously a huge one. I go into my second Ryder Cup playing nicely, hitting it lovely and looking forward to it”.
Nicolas Colsaerts was another well-known player in the Johnnie Walker Championship. He played an excellent game and finished in the 19th place.
He scored a total of 282 points. His score showed an interesting progression that lasted across the four rounds.
Talking about his game, he said, “It has just been exhausting, the last two months. Every week, I felt like I was just one round away from getting an automatic spot. I didn't think I was very lucky”.
