Paul Lawrie eyes another good finish at the DP World Tour Championship
Paul Lawrie is looking to end his brilliant European Tour campaign on a high-note by going one position better than last year at the season-ending DP World Tour Championship.
The tournament is being staged at the Jumeirah Golf Estates, featuring the top-60 players in the European Tour’s money list, The Race to Dubai.
Lawrie has enjoyed a great run of form this season, winning the Commercialbank Qatar Masters and the Johnnie Walker Championship at Gleneagles earlier this year.
In addition to that, he also finished tied for the second and the third position at the BMW PGA Championship and the Volvo World Match Play Championship, respectively.
Moreover, he also represented the European team in the Ryder Cup this season. He earned a key point in the singles match against Brandt Snedeker to help his team make a record comeback in the tournament.
He currently ranks 10th in The Race to Dubai and is in prime position to earn a handsome share of the $3,750,000 bonus pool, offered to the top-10 players at the end of the season.
Talking to the European Tour’s official website, the 43-year-old Scotsman credited his runner-up finish at the DP World Tour Championship last year for his remarkable run of form this season.
This week, he plans to keep the momentum going into the season finale, in a bid to record his third victory of the season.
“My confidence got a huge boost at this tournament last year, there's no question,” Lawrie said on Wednesday.
“Last year this was a fantastic week. I finished two shots behind to take second on my own and played lovely all week,” he added. “I holed a lot of putts this time last year which was nice, and obviously I’m quite keen to go one better this year, but we'll
wait and see what we get come tomorrow”.
He also said that he was satisfied with his performance in the Pro-Am on Tuesday, and was confident to remain consistent in the official four rounds of the tournament.
“I played nicely yesterday in the Pro Am, made a few birdies, and just played nine holes now. I’m hitting the ball pretty well,” he said.
