Paul Lawrie wants to live his Ryder Cup’s dream at the ISPS Handa Wales Open
Paul Lawrie reached The Celtic Manor Resort, and will play the ISPS Handa Wales Open to realise his dreams of participating in the Ryder Cup.
The 43-year-old Scottish professional golf player is excited to be in the field of the European Tour staged event in the City of Newport, Wales. He desires to achieve high scores, so that he can make it to the 2012 edition of the Ryder Cup.
In 2002, Lawrie won the title by a massive five-stroke lead. That year, he was the most impressive player. After the win in 2002, he only recorded two more victories, at the European Tour, in 2011 and 2012.
It was the Open de Andalucía de Golf in 2011 and Commercialbank Qatar Masters in the current year. He amazed his fans at both the events, by scoring enormously.
On the other hand, he has also recorded many top-10 finishes since January. He finished on the eighth position at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship, ninth at the WGC - Accenture Match Play Championship and fourteenth at the Volvo China Open.
Similarly, he also recorded high scores and secured the third position at the Volvo World Match Play Championship and second at the BMW PGA Championship.
Now his goals are high for the year. He wants to be in the European Team of the Ryder Cup, to be staged in September 2012.
“I feel that the US Open is not a venue that’s ever been suited to my game. Not going means I can have two weeks off (following this week’s Wales Open) and concentrate on the run of five tournaments afterwards,” Lawrie said.
He added, “I’m a better putter, I’m a slightly better ball-striker and I’ve been working out a little bit. I’m a little stronger, hitting the ball a bit further and playing a lot of golf at home”.
“I was getting into a kind of rut of being quite technical and hitting balls instead of playing. Now all of a sudden I’m tournament-sharp all the time, I feel”.
If he performs well in Wales and records high scores, then he will be improving his position on the European Team points table. The victory at ISPS Handa Wales Open will be giving him leading opportunities for the Ryder Cup.
