Paul Lawrie’s 68 helps him find spot in the European Ryder Cup standings
Paul Lawrie shot a 68 in the final round of the Volvo China Open, securing the 5th position on the Ryder Cup’s European Team, as he finished on the 14th position.
The 43-year-old Scottish professional golf player displayed an amazing performance in the event co-sanctioned by the European Tour and the OneAsia Tour.
The event was held at Binhai Lake Golf Club in Tianjin, China. He is currently ranked on the 44th position in the world, and has now managed to make it to the Ryder Cups’ European Team points list.
Lawrie teed off the tournament on Thursday and shot a 72 in the first round. Later, he played enormously and scored a 5-under 67, his best round finish in the current year.
Then he added a 4-under 68 in the third and the fourth round each. After delivering his best in China, he finished tied for the 14th position at the end of the day.
Due to scoring 67 and 68 in China, he improved his point’s figures and recorded 1,387,723.60. Now, he is among the top-5 players of European Team's points list.
Rory McIlroy is on the top, earning 2,584,843.51 so far. Peter Hanson is on the second position, followed by Martin Kaymer on the third and Justin Rose on the fourth position.
The 2012 Ryder Cup is scheduled to take place from September 25 to 30, at the sensational venue of Medinah Country Club in Medinah, Illinois.
All the players, belonging to the USA and European countries, desire to play the upcoming mega event.
Another interesting fact attached with the tournament is that the US Team is striving to regain its ascendency by winning this year.
There will likely be a tougher competition than the last year, and both the teams will try to pile up big scores against each other.
Davis Love III is the captain of the US team, whereas the Team Europe will be led by Jose Maria Olazabal. Both the captains have the right to choose their favourite players, who will play the Ryder Cup. However, they will declare their selection in the first
week of September.
Lawrie now has ample chances to pace up his performance and to secure multiple top finishes, so that he can confirm his merit selection in the European Team.
