Paul Maholm shines as Atlanta Braves shut-out Miami Marlins 3-0 - MLB Update

Starter Paul Maholm throws scoreless innings as the Atlanta Braves shut-out the Miami Marlins 3-0 at Turner Field, Atlanta, Georgia on September 26, 2012 in the second game of the three match series.
Miami struggled to send base-runners aboard as is indicated by the fact that they struck more hits than Atlanta and yet they lagged behind in terms of runs.
Bad times for Miami have not yet ended. Their winning percentage which was already low has worsened further with a defeat on Wednesday.
They were completely powerless in the game. Certainly if there was a little resistance shown by their batters the Braves will not have won easily.
The team which is out of contention needs face-saving victories in order to bring some solace for the disgruntled fans. Such a unit looks to sign off the season on a high in order to make a fresh start next year. However, an out-and-out failure of the Marlins
has left little reason for them to feel good about.
Offensively Atlanta relied on their left fielder Martin Prado to score runs. He added two RBIs while striking two hits in four at-bats.
Maholm is ecstatic after completing an impressive spell of little more than six innings. He struck-out six. He entered the game trying to assume that there is an extreme pressure in order to feel accustomed to such a situation before the crucial matches
ahead.
"I tried to do as much as I could to try to treat it like a playoff game," Maholm said. "Obviously, this is what you play for. You want to play in October. You want to play in the postseason. It's fun to come to the park and know there's some added pressure
to come in and try to do some things."
Craig Kimbrel earned his 40th save of the season for Atlanta. Marlins’ manager Ozzie Guillen is extremely impressed with the way he finishes off penultimate innings scoreless.
"This kid's amazing!" Ozzie Guillen said. "Every time he's on the mound, I guarantee you everybody in the Atlanta organization feels pretty good about it.”
Braves will be mindful of the fact that they were not at their best offensively. They will look to improve in this area in the upcoming matches.
