Paul Malignaggi and Robert Guerrero engage in a quarrel – Boxing news
Paul Malignaggi and Robert Guerrero, two prolific pugilists promoted by Golden Boy promotions, have been throwing harsh comments on each other recently, which might lead to a one-on-one encounter in the ring on May 5, 2012.
Malignaggi, who is almost close to finalising a bout against Vycheslav Senchenko, is more interested in pursuing a bout with Robert. On this, the 31-year-old American vehemently bashed Guerrero saying he is not a man of his words.
Paul asserted that although Robert pompously claims to be fit enough to take on the fiercest opponents, fact is that he has not yet countered tough competiton. Paul, infamous as the Magic Man, revealed his offer was thumbed down without any justification
by Robert, the current Interim WBA world and WBO lightweight title holder.
The current world number 26 welterweight Paul was furious over Robert's reaction and advised him to recall his true Mexican fighting spirit.
Paul said, “You need to find the Mexican warrior within yourself and back up your hot air by stepping into the ring on the day of pride and heritage for your people, Cinco De Mayo.”
Magic Man taunted Robert the Ghost that he has no right to call on brawlers such as Floyd Mayweather, Amir Khan, and Victor Ortiz since he does not possess the guts to face a quality pugilist. Paul almost furiously invited Robert to a brawl and said that
if he knows what he is saying and he is true to his words he must come in the ring on May 5 against him.
Robert on the other hand said, “Look at the facts Paulie, why did I turn you down? You’re a tremendous puncher? NO! You make for fan friendly fights? NO! You are a HBO or Showtime approved fighter? NO! Fact is, Eric Gomez at Golden Boy said you wouldn’t
be approved to fight on a date that isn’t a Pay Per View. So if our promoter can convince a network that you are worthy enough to be on your own date, then let’s rumble.”
No further progress has been seen from both camps and at the moment Paul is still scheduled to take on the Ukrainian proud Senchenko on a date which is still to be decided in the month of April.
