Paul Malignaggi: Vyacheslav Senchenko is a quality pugilist but lacks creativity – Boxing News
Paul Malignaggi, the former WBO NABO light welterweight champion, recently shared his thoughts about the Ukrainian Vyacheslav Senchenko and commented that the WBA champion is a straight forward pugilist who goes by the book and lacks creativity adding that
I am going to Ukraine for just one thing to grab the title and dethrone Senchenko.
Paul and Senchenko will headline a high-profile bout-stacked pay-per-view which is being promoted by Yuriy Ruban of Union Boxing Promotion. The ring for the Sunday night event will be stretched at Donbass Arena situated in Donetsk, Ukraine and the night
will be co-headlined by the WBA Inter-Continental cruiserweight championship bout between Iago Kiladze and Julien Perriaux.
The event, which will be televised live on April 29, 2012, will witness a total five title bouts in different divisions. Paul recently attended a press conference and shared his thoughts about Senchenko.
Paul, 31, has been in a total 34 bouts and boasts 30 wins. Interestingly, he has collected just six wins by knockout. Senchenko, on the other hand, has been in a total 32 bouts and has never lost even a single one since the inception of his career. Vyacheslav
has collected a huge 21 wins by knockout and over names that are feared in the welterweight division.
An overall comparison of the stats of both men clearly shows that Senchenko is invincible. But still Paul is optimistic and informed that the Ukrainian pounder lacks the ability to be creative.
Paul remarked, “He’s more like what I call a textbook boxer. Correct punches, correct fundamentals, not a lot of creativity. There is not a lot of room for creativity. He’s very robotic. We had sparring partners over the years, we’ve boxed guys with that
style over the years.”
When asked as to how he feels about the bout, Paul simply replied, “He has a world title and I want to win that title. You have to go to the Ukraine to take it and that’s what I’m going to do.”
The odds undoubtedly are in favour of Vyacheslav who has over the years proved that he is a quality pugilist who can nail even the best in the division. This will be Senchenko’s fourth title defence bout.
Paul needs to come up with a decent unique plan as many men in the past have claimed before entering the ring that they will nail Senchenko but utterly failed to do so. Vyacheslav is a talented pugilist who uses his jabs and takes every step in a well-calculated
manner therefore if Paul commits even a single small mistake it might cost him the whole bout.
