Paul McCartney confirms participation in opening ceremony of London 2012 Olympic Games
The former member of the famous band The Beatles, Sir Paul McCartney, has publically confirmed that he will be performing live at the opening ceremony of the London 2012 Olympic Games which are scheduled to take place from July 27.
The performance that will be given by McCartney will mark the end of the Olympics opening ceremony.
McCartney confirmed his commitment with the London Organising Committee for the Olympic Games while in conversation with BBC Radio 5 Live Drive in the following words, “I`ve been booked. I would be closing the opening on 27 July.”
Despite his years, the former Beatles artist has been actively giving performances. The most recent performance by McCartney was at the Queen's Diamond Jubilee concert that took place in London on a stage set in front of the Buckingham Palace only yesterday.
The total number of audience present at the show apart from the royalty was 12,000 while McCartney performed on five of his hit songs.
All the performances and gigs that will create the opening day of the Olympics have not yet been revealed but it has been promised by the London organizers to be a treat to experience. The total number of participants that will be performing in both the
opening as well as the closing ceremonies of the Games are estimated to be 15,000.
The person who is supervising the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games is Danny Boyle, who is the Oscar winning filmmaker popular for the direction of the movie Slumdog Millionaire. The opening ceremony of the Olympic Games will be based upon the Shakespearean
theme `Isles of Wonder`. The attention being given to the opening ceremony by the director is great as according to the estimates, both the opening as well as the closing ceremonies will be viewed by an audience of four billion globally.
Apart from the 69 year old former Beatles artist, the opening ceremony of the Olympics will also feature Duran Duran, the British music sensation from the 80s. Not only that, other popular bands artists such as the Snow Patrol, Stereophonics as well as Paolo
Nutini will also be taking part.
